Abigail Sarmac


Abby serves as a Program Officer for The Lemelson Foundation, managing the Foundation’s work to provide early-stage support to organizations that are incubating investment-ready, self-sustaining, invention-based enterprises that address significant human needs in developing countries. She joined the Foundation in April 2005 after living and working in Senegal, Ecuador, Italy and the US with several international environmental organizations, including the World Conservation Union (IUCN), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). Abby earned her M.Sc. in Environmental Science from Yale University’s School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. Oscar is a consultant and Chartered Financial Manager with over 10 years of experience in corporate management and performance optimization, with a particular emphasis in change management, business development, resource realignment, and service delivery. Andreas Zeller brings professional experience in entrepreneurship investment banking and emerging market private equity. Anish joined PRADAN in 1994 and is currently a Programme Director at the organization. Ashish Karamchandani is a Partner at Monitor Group based in Mumbai. Asif Saleh was the Executive Director at Goldman Sachs, and also worked at GlaxoWellcome, NorTel, IBM. Upon his return to Bangladesh in 2008, he worked as a policy specialist for the UNDP funded project Access to Information Programme (A2i) at the Prime Minister’s Office. Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty


In 2001, Shetty founded Narayana Hrudayalaya (NH), a multi-specialty hospital in Bommasandra on the outskirts of Bangalore, because he could not find any employers who understood his vision. He believes that the cost of healthcare can be reduced by 50 percent in the next 5–10 years if hospitals adopt the idea of economies of scale.[6] Apart from cardiac surgery, NH also has cardiology, neurosurgery, pediatric surgery, haematology and transplant services, and nephrology among various others. The heart hospital is the largest in the world with 1000 beds performing over 30 major heart surgeries a day. The land on which the health city was built, was previously a marshland which was reclaimed for this purpose.

Paul Breloff is the founding managing director of the Accion Venture Lab. He has advised CGAP (an independent research center focused on financial inclusion and housed at the World Bank) on policy and technical issues related to branchless banking and has been engaged by Root Capital, Shell Foundation, BRAC, and others on access-to-finance issues in Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Previously, Paul worked with SKS Microfinance, India’s largest microfinance institution, leading business development and strategic initiatives and assisting on capital raising.
