Overview

Kafo Jiginew is one of the first savings banks and credit systems to emerge in Mali. It was created in 1987 by cotton farmers in southern Mali to be the bank of the peasants. As the attic where the peasant preciously stored his crops to cope with possible shortages, the peasant bank Kafo Jiginew safe guard the savings of its members in provident less happy days. Kafo Jiginew in bamanan "union lofts" is a mutual institution of savings and credit services to the poor. The institution embodied since its inception, the willingness of farmers and craftsmen to control themselves their own development.
